CONWAY, S.C. – Fans will get their first look at the 2026-27 Coastal Carolina men's basketball team Wednesday night when it hosts Columbia International in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. at the HTC Center. Admission is free.
Head coach Justin Gray enters his third season leading the program after guiding the Chants to a 19-13 record last season, a nine-win improvement from the previous season. Coastal went 11-7 in Sun Belt Conference play and tied for second in the league standings. The 11 conference wins were the Chants' most since joining the Sun Belt in 2016.
Coastal returns three players from last year's team: DaJohn Craig, Derrick Green and Tristan Thompson. Craig and Thompson appeared in all 32 games last season, while Green played in 31 contests. Craig made 35 3-pointers, Thompson averaged 4.0 points and 4.2 rebounds, and Green shot 65.7 percent from the field.
The returning trio is joined by 12 newcomers, including Division I transfers Trey Perry, Darius Washington III, Ashton Hardaway, Jaylen Cross, Caleb Middleton and Drew Fuquay. Perry and Washington each played in the NCAA Tournament as freshmen last season, while Hardaway appeared in 88 games over three seasons at Memphis and Saint Mary's.Â
The Chants have hosted the Rams twice previously during the regular season, posting wins in 2014 (82-51) and 2020 (113-56).
Following Wednesday's exhibition, the Chanticleers will open the regular season against Eastern Michigan on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at the HTC Center as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge.
