CONWAY, S.C. — No. 14 Coastal Carolina made quick work of ULM on Saturday afternoon, scoring four runs in the second inning and holding the Warhawks off the board for a 4-0 rain-shortened victory at Springs Brooks Stadium.
The Chanticleers (41-11, 23-4 Sun Belt) completed their fifth consecutive Sun Belt Conference series sweep and extended their win streaks to 11 games overall and 15 straight in league play. After center fielder
Wells Sykes dropped down a bunt single to open the bottom of the fifth inning, the tarp came out due to heavy rain. Following a 45-minute delay, the game was declared official.
Blake Barthol started the scoring with a solo home run to right in the second, his 10th of the season. Coastal followed with four consecutive hits, including a two-run double by
Colby Thorndyke and an RBI groundout from Sykes to build the 4-0 advantage.
Luke Jones (3-2) earned the win after tossing two scoreless innings, and
Matthew Potok followed with three shutout frames and four strikeouts to lock down the combined shutout. Brennan Eager (4-4) took the loss for ULM (21-30, 7-20).
Coastal Carolina improved to 24-3 at home and will close out the regular season at Old Dominion in a Thursday-Saturday series.
