CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team clinched the series over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, winning game two 10-8.
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns started fast, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run home run from Emily Smith and an RBI single from Laney Credeur.
The Chants got a run back in the bottom of the frame when
Keirstin Roose lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 3-1.
Coastal struck again in the bottom of the third inning when
Georgia Hood and
McKennah Metzger drove in a pair of runs to tie the game at 3-3.
CCU took the lead in the bottom of the fourth frame after
Libby Pippin ripped an RBI single to drive in
Clara Hudgens, putting the Chants ahead 4-3.
The Chanticleers added on in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring on back-to-back RBI singles from
Brie Normandin and
Maddy Jennings and a sacrifice fly from
Reese Collier to give the Chants a 7-3 advantage.
In the top of the sixth inning, Louisiana cut the deficit to 7-5, adding two runs on a solo home run from Credeur and an errant throw on a stolen base attempt.
Roose smashed an RBI double and Metzger belted a two-run homer over the right-center field wall in the bottom of the sixth to widen the gap to 10-5.
The Ragin' Cajuns attempted to rally in the top of the seventh when Smith cleared the bases on a three-run double to make the score 10-8, but it was ultimately not enough to prevent the Chants from securing the series.
Abby Henderson improved to 9-4 in the circle, allowing five runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innings of work.
