Kriss Proctor joined head coach Tim Beck’s staff as the tight ends coach in December 2022.
The Chants’ offense averaged near five yards per carry a year ago (4.6) while covering 2,242 yards on the ground, 2,616 yards through the air with 41 scores. Proctor's tight ends group had 28 receptions for 397 yards and three scores.
In his first season at Coastal, the Chants’ tight ends caught 34 passes for 312 yards and six touchdowns, led by Kendall Karr’s five touchdown grabs.
Proctor came to Coastal from NC State where he served as the offensive quality control assistant under offensive coordinators Eliah Drinkwitz (now the head coach at Missouri) and Beck from 2016-22.
While working with Beck at NC State over each of the last three seasons (2020-22), he helped lead the Wolfpack to three-consecutive eight-plus win seasons, three-straight bowl appearances, and a combined record of 25-12.
In 2022, NC State finished the regular season at 8-4 overall and was ranked as high as No. 16 in the College Football Playoff Rankings and was most recently ranked No. 25 in the latest rankings.
NC State was also ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll for 11-straight weeks and in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll for 12 consecutive weeks this season, reaching as high as No. 10 in both national polls in week four (Sept. 25).
In each of his last two seasons in Raleigh, N.C., in 2021-22, NC State’s offense was ranked in the top half of the highly-touted Atlantic Coastal Conference (ACC) in scoring offense, total offense, and passing offense, while continuing to set program records along the way.
Before joining the Wolfpack in Raleigh, N.C., he spent the 2015 season at Indiana State as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.
With the Sycamores, two receivers in Gary Owens and Robert Tonyan Jr. both tied the school’s single-game record with three touchdown receptions, while both etched their names into the top 25 of the single-season record book for the most receiving yards in a year. The duo also totaled three 100-yard receiving games in their one year under Proctor’s tutelage. Tonyan Jr. has gone on to play professionally for the Green Bay Packers.
Prior to his one season at Indiana State, Proctor spent three seasons working under various titles at Boise State. In 2014, he was an offensive quality control coach, during which time he worked primarily with the Broncos’ quarterbacks.
The Broncos went 12-2 in 2014, winning the Mountain West Conference Championship with a 28-14 victory over Fresno State, as well as the Fiesta Bowl with a 38-30 win over Arizona. Boise State quarterback Grant Hedrick led the nation in completion percentage (70.8) and was in the top 15 in yards per pass attempt (seventh, 8.91 yards/attempt), passing efficiency (ninth, 157.2), passing yardage (13th, 3,696 yards), and total offense (14th, 306.3 yards/game).
During the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Proctor worked as a recruiting assistant for the Broncos. Under that role, Proctor was in charge of a variety of recruiting operations that helped Boise State land some of its best recruiting classes ever.
Proctor played from 2008-11 at the United States Naval Academy. He is ranked as Navy's fastest quarterback in the triple option era, running a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and a 4.1 in the pro agility shuffle.
As a senior, he posted 211 rushes for 914 yards to lead the Midshipmen with 14 touchdowns on the year. He completed 52 passes for 787 yards and seven scores through the air. Proctor rushed for a season-best 176 yards against Delaware with three touchdowns. He added 97 rushing yards with two touchdowns in a nationally-televised 27-21 win over Army, earning MVP honors, to close out the season.
Over his career as a player, staff member, and coach, he has been a part of 12 postseason bowl games: player - 2008 Military Bowl, 2009 Texas Bowl, 2010 Poinsettia Bowl; coach - 2012 Vegas Bowl, 2014 Hawaii Bowl, 2016 Fiesta Bowl, 2016 Independence Bowl, 2017 Hyundai Sun Bowl, 2018 Gator Bowl, 2020 Gator Bowl, 2021 Holiday Bowl, and 2023 Hawaii Bowl.
A native of Big Bear Lake, Calif., Proctor earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Boise State in 2013.
