Sharon Thompson was appointed by Coastal Carolina University President David A. DeCenzo to serve as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative in 2007. She is a professor of health promotion in the Department of Health Sciences and is the director of the Swain Scholars program.
She has been a faculty member at Coastal Carolina University since 1991. Among her many accolades, Thompson was named the South Carolina Governor's Professor of the Year in 2008.
She earned a Pd.D. in health education administration in 1993, and master's degrees in community education in 1982 and educational administration in 1992, all from the University of South Carolina. She earned a bachelor's degree in plant sciences from Clemson University in 1980.
Originally from Greenwood, S.C., Thompson has two daughters: Leslie and Austin.
