Elizabeth Appenzeller has served as the head cheerleading coach at Coastal Carolina University since 2009. She is responsible for the Chanticleer Cheerleading squad and for the University's mascot, Chauncey.
Previously, she was the assistant cheerleading coach at Wingate University from 2008-2009 and the head cheerleading coach and spirit liaison at Greensboro College from 2006-2008. Appenzeller managed the cheerleading team and mascots at Greensboro and organized fundraising and community service opportunities, managed the budget, created football and basketball game scripts and coordinated promotional activities as well as game day and halftime entertainment. She was the assistant coach at High Point University from 2005-2006, where she managed mascot appearances, created a recruiting database and helped facilitate practices and tryouts.
Appenzeller also has worked at the Sport Management Group in Greensboro, N.C., and was the cheerleading director at the Spears Family YMCA in Greensboro. She has certifications from the American Association of Cheerleaders, Coaches and Advisors (AACCA), the National Council for Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE) and the Cheer Ltd. National Cheer Judges.
Appenzeller earned a bachelor's degree in history and criminal justice from Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., in 2004 and master's degree in sport science from High Point University in 2006. She also attended Barry University School of Law in Orlando, Fla.
At Guilford, Appenzeller was a cheerleader and a member of the women's tennis and women's soccer teams. With her grandfather, she is one of three authors of the book, Cheerleading and the Law: Risk Management Strategies for Cheerleading (2008). She is originally from Wingate, N.C.
