CONWAY - Coastal Carolina athletic department officials and student-athletes did their part to help incoming freshmen settle into their new homes on Thursday.
Fifteen members of the Department of Athletics Leadership team, players from both the football and volleyball teams and lacrosse coaches Jaime Sellers and Christie Kaestner joined nearly 400 representatives of Chanticrew in participating in Move-In Day 2012.
The volunteers assisted incoming freshmen and their parents with the move by transporting students' belongings from their vehicles to their respective dorms with golf carts promptly after their arrival on campus. Once at the dorms, they also moved items into the rooms.
Volunteers worked in two four-hour shifts, beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. "(The students and parents) were very appreciative that they did not have to do a lot of lifting," said Cari Rosiek, associate athletic director for student enhancement and senior woman administrator. "They also appreciated meeting people from the athletic department there. There was a lot of discussion about women's lacrosse and the upcoming football season."
The event was coordinated by Resident Director of University Housing Stephen Swieton. Rosiek said the group plans to assist with the project again in the future.
