CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University held its summer graduation Friday, Aug. 4, and 12 Chanticleer student-athletes (current and former) were a part of the ceremony.

With those graduating today, Coastal Carolina has 15 of its 17 football seniors with undergraduate degrees and, with three juniors also receiving degrees Friday, a total of 18 football Chants will either be working on their Master's or a second undergraduate degree this fall.

Also this week, the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame released a list of 952 student-athletes who have already earned their undergraduate degrees and will be playing college football this fall while pursuing second diplomas. Coastal Carolina had the second-most graduates in all division of NCAA college football that will be playing this fall with 14, trailing only Connecticut with 18.

However, the list was compiled prior to this August's graduation.

Of the 17 seniors listed on the 2017 CCU football roster, 15 have now received their undergraduate degrees, including Friday graduate Dontay Hears. Fellow Friday graduates and juniors Laquay Brown, Anthony Chesley and James Heft join the group to boost Coastal's total to 18 graduates.

The two 20017 seniors that have yet to graduate are quarterback Tyler Keane and kicker Masamitsu Ishibashi, both of whom are set to graduate this December and carry at least a career GPA of 3.3.

C.J. Thompson, who completed his eligibility this past fall, completed his degree in communication this summer.

In the five years of head coach Joe Moglia's time at Coastal, 49 Chanticleers have graduated with at least one year of eligibility remaining. Thirty-three of those 49 have been players that were recruited to Coastal by Coach Moglia.

Others to graduate Friday (Aug. 4) included Josh Cameron and Jaylen Shaw from men's basketball; Yasmin Miller from women's basketball; Nic Planchard and Sebastian Schneider from men's tennis; Charles Bascom from men's track/cross country; and Courtney Lawson from women's track.

Three of today's 12 Chanticleers graduated with honors, including:
James Heft (football), cum laude in business management.
Sebastian Schneider (men's tennis), magna cum laude in management.
Charles Bascom (men's track/cross country), magna cum laude in finance.
