Danch, Garbee Named Media Relations Assistants

Deandra Danch and Teresa Garbee join media relations for the 2009-10 year.

CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina University has named Deandra Danch and Teresa Garbee as Athletic Media Relations Assistants for the 2009-10 year, Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations John Martin announced today. Their appointments are effective immediately.

Danch interned with the St. Bonaventure University Sports Information Department for two years, working with men's tennis, basketball, and baseball. For the St. Bonaventure 2008-09 women's basketball season, Danch was employed by the Olean Times Herald as a beat reporter and covered the squad's season, including the Women's Basketball Atlantic 10 tournament and the team's berth in the WNIT.

While at St. Bonaventure, Danch was involved in WSBU radio as a news anchor and a sports analyst on "Diddy's Sports Mix." She also wrote newsletters to parents of freshman in the "First Year Experience" program. In the summer of 2007, Danch interned with WJAC-TV out of Johnstown, Pa. Danch graduated from St. Bonaventure in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism/mass communication.

Garbee spent the past year working as a graduate assistant in Virginia Commonwealth University's Athletic Media Relations office, assisting with many of the Rams' sports. A native of Richmond, Va., she finished her master’s degree in sport leadership/athletic administration from VCU’s Center for Sport Leadership in 2009.

Garbee earned her bachelor’s degree in technical and scientific communication in 2008 from James Madison University. While at JMU, she worked in the University’s Sports Media Relations office, where she was responsible for publishing Duke Dog’s Dish, a weekly e-newsletter.
