Coastal Carolina Student-Athletes Continue to Enjoy Classroom Success

Of the 453 Coastal Carolina student-athletes, 256 posted a GPA of 3.0 or better for the fall 2012 semester

CONWAY - Of the 453 Coastal Carolina student-athletes, including the cheer squad, a total of 256 posted a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the fall 2012 semester, including 20 President's List honorees (4.0) and 130 Dean's List honorees (3.25 PGA or better for freshman, 3.5 for sophomores, juniors and seniors). In addition 15 of the 18 Chanticleer sports programs earned team GPAs of 3.0 or better.

Not counted in the honorees above were six Chanticleers who exhausted their eligibility after the spring 2012 semester. Chris Floyd (football) and Kaitlin Higginbotham (women's golf), who were part of 20 CCU student-athletes to graduate this past December, each posted a perfect 4.0 in their final semester. Ty Wengel (men's golf), Daniel Bowman (baseball) and Kelsie Mauck (volleyball) earned Dean's List recognition as they graduated in this past December. Also, Jason Flanagan, former Chant All-American in the javelin, was a Dean's List honoree this past semester.

Overall, Coastal Carolina student-athletes posted a 3.021 GPA for the fall 2012 semester and own a 3.054 cumulative GPA, an improvement over the student-athlete's cumulative 2.985 GPA prior to the fall semester. The women's programs combined for a 3.244 GPA this past semester with all but one earning a team GPA of 3.0 or better. (Softball just missed with a 2.998 GPA.) The men's programs combined for a 2.941 GPA with baseball, cross country, golf, soccer and tennis earning over 3.0.

The football program led the way with 46 (of its 108) student-athletes posting a 3.0 GPA or better. However, in relations to squad sizes, women's golf had all 11 student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or better while women's cross country had 11 of its 12 squad member accomplish the feat, lacrosse had 25 of its 26 and women's tennis had seven of its nine. For the men, the soccer team had 18 of its 22 squad members post at least a 3.0 GPA while cross country and tennis each had six of its nine do so.
