CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team dropped game one to the Marshall Thundering Herd 6-3 on Friday evening at St. John Stadium.
Marshall took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Bella Gerlach and Paige Simpson hit back-to-back singles and Diamond Leslie followed by clearing the bases on a three run home run over the center field wall.
The Thundering Herd added three more runs in the top of the third inning scoring on a pair of fielder's choices and an error to extend their lead to 6-0.
Coastal threatened in the bottom of the fourth frame when
Brie Normandin laced a leadoff single and
Kaelin Cash then pushed her into scoring position with a double to right center field but the Thundering Herd keep their cool to record three straight outs to hold the score at 6-0.
Kaelin Cash got the Chants on the scoreboard the bottom of the sixth inning when she ripped a solo home run over the center field wall to make the score 6-1.
The Chants scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning when
Delaney Keith and
Georgia Hood hit back-to-back home runs but it was ultimately not enough to secure the comeback.
McKennah Metzger dropped 4-2 in the circle allowing six runs off seven hits during her 7.0 innings of work.
