VIiellehner Named to Cross Country All-Southeast Region Team

CONWAY, S.C.- Coastal Carolina's Julia Viellehner (Winhoring, Germany/Maria Ward Gymnasium) has been named to the Division I All-Southeast Region Cross Country team, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association announced today (Nov. 14).

Viellehner, a freshman, has been the Lady Chanticleers top runner this fall, being named Big South Runner of the Week three times this season. Viellehner became the first freshman in CCU history to qualify for Nationals and the sixth Lady Chanticleer to qualify since 1996.

This season, Viellehner has won three races, set two course records, a Big South record and a Coastal Carolina record. She defeated several All-Americans at Pre-Nationals, placing 18th out of 241 runners and was the Big South Champion, Rookie and Runner of the Year. She most recently finished eighth out of 205 runners, which qualified her for Nationals.

To be considered for the All Region team, athletes must finish in the top 25 of their region and meet NCAA Division I Cross Country Coaches Association requirements.

The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held Monday, November 20 in Terre Haute, Ind. Stanford won last year's national title with 146 points, finishing in front of Colorado (181) and Duke (185).
