Women's Cross Country's Travels to the New Balance Big South Championships this Weekend

LEXINGTON, VA – Coastal Carolina's women's cross country team and head coach Alan Connie will be competing for their fifth consecutive New Balance Big South Conference Championship this weekend as it heads to Lexington, Va., for a 10 a.m. meet.

Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru), who in her previous three years of competing at the conference championships has been the individual champion twice and the runner up last season, will be looking to improve upon her season-best 5k time of 17:28 at the Great American Race.

Also in competition for the Chanticleers this weekend will be sophomore Aubrey Bergquist (Patasakala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) who was 11th at the 2004 championship and junior Eileen Wicker (Quinton, Va./New Kent) a third place finisher in 2003. Fellow junior Danielle Hagler (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern Regional) also will run for Coastal.

Maklng their conference champion debuts for CCU will be freshmen Saskia Janssen (Schwalmtal, Germany/St. Wolfhelm Gymnasium), Estelle Oberson (Geneva, Switzerland/Emilie Gourd) and Felicitas Mensing (Neuhausen, Germany/Leplergy Secondary School).

The teams expected to offer Coastal the greatest resistance are Liberty, the runner up last season, and High Point, who placed third a year ago.

Following the competition on Saturday, Coastal's women's cross country team will take a week off before heading to Greenville, N.C. to participate in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.
