Viellenher Named Big South Runner of the Week for the Third Time this Season

Women's Cross Country Ranked Ninth in Southeast Region

Charlotte- N.C.- Coastal Carolina’s Julia Viellehner has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, October 18.

Viellehner, a freshman from Winhoring, Germany, was the top freshman finisher in the Blue race at the Pre-National meet in Terra Haute, Ind. Her time of 20:38 on the 6K course was good for 18th overall in the race. She also posted the third-fastest overall freshman time in the Blue and White races combined. The honor marks the third time this season that she has been tabbed Runner of the Week.

Viellehner has turned in three other stellar performances so far this season for the Lady Chanticleers. She set new course records at both the Covered Bridge Open (9/1) and the CCU Invitational (9/16) and set a Big South and school record at the Paul Short Run (9/29).

As a team, the Lady Chanticleers recently were ranked ninth in the Southeast Region according to the US Track and Field Association. Coastal is the only Big South team to earn a ranking so far this season.

Coastal Carolina has this weekend off before traveling to Charleston, S.C. on October 28 for the Big South Championships hosted by Charleston Southern University.
