Women's Cross Country's Places 18th out of 34 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals
TERRE HAUTE, IND Senior Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru) had her fourth consecutive top-20 finish (17) as Coastal Carolinas women's cross country team placed 18th out of 34 teams in the 6k White Race on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
Moutsinga ran 21:06 to place 17th overall out of 234 runners. It was her fourth top-20 finish for Coastal in as many years at Pre-Nationals.
Freshman Saskia Janssen (Schwalmtal, Germany/St. Wolfhelm Gymnasium) was CCU's second runner with a 21:43 to place 62nd. Fellow freshmen Estelle Oberson (Geneva, Switzerland/Emilie-Gourd) and Felicitas Mensing (Neuhausen, Germany/Leplergy Secondary School) finished 90th and 120th overall with times of 22:01 and 22:23, respectively.
Juniors Danielle Hagler (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern) and Eileen Wicker (Quinton, Va./New Kent) rounded up the finishers for Coastal. Hagler was 171th with a 22:59 while Wicker was 214th with a 24:10.
The Chanticleers finish of 18th out of 34 teams in the White Race with an average time of 22:03, was only two seconds out of finishing 15th against some of the toughest women's cross country teams nationally. Out of the field of 34, 13 teams were ranked in the top 37. The Chants had a total of 450 points in the meet, only two points behind Vanderbilt.
Coastal Carolina's women's cross country team is next competing in the Big South Cross Country Championships, Oct 29 in Lexington, Va. as hosted by VMI at 10 a.m.
