Women's Cross Country Finished 27th out of 36 Teams at Cross Country Pre-Nationals
Freshman Julia Viellehner Won Top Awards
TERRE HAUTE, IND.- The Coastal Carolina Women's Cross Country team finished 27th out of 36 teams in the Blue Seed of the NCAA Pre-Nationals Saturday, October 14.
Freshman Julia Viellehner (Winhoring, Germany/Maria Ward Gymnasium) defeated several All-Americans with her strong finish of 18th out of 241 runners with a time of 20:38. Runners in the top 30 win awards at the meet.
Felicitas Mensing (Neuhausen, Germany/Leplergy Secondary School) was the second Lady Chanticleer to cross the finish line. Mensing finished 88th with a time of 21:36. Diana Jepchirchir (Kampala, Uganda/University of New Orleans) finished 160th at 22:10, Claudia Witte ( Warlin, Germany/Sportgymnasium Neubrandenburg) crossed the finish line at 22:37, giving her 194th spot. Aubrey Bergquist ( Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) finished 203 with a time of 22:46.
NCAA defending champions Stanford won the Blue Seed Race followed by Minnesota, Arizona and Brigham Young. Big South Conference rival Liberty finished in the 31st position with their top runner, Piper Newby finishing 82nd.
The Lady Chanticleers are back in action on October 28 when they travel to Charleston, S.C. for the Big South Championships.
