Womens Cross Country to Compete at NCAA Pre-Nationals This Weekend
CONWAY, S.C. Senior Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru) and the Coastal Carolinas womens cross country team will be traveling to Terre Haute, Ind., this weekend to compete in the NCAA Pre-Nationals Saturday, Oct. 15 at 12:55 p.m.
Moutsinga has finished in the top-20 at Pre-Nationals in each of her first three years for Coastal and will attempt to run the streak to four with her run on Saturday. Moutsinga is coming off a strong race where she placed 11th with her best time of the season,17:29.50, in the Nike Race of Champions at the Great American Race.
Also competing for CCU this weekend are freshmen Saskia Janssen (Schwalmtal, Germany/St. Wolfhelm Gymnasium), Estelle Oberson (Geneva, Switzerland/Emilie-Gourd) and Felicitas Mensing (Neuhausen, Germany/Leplergy Secondary School), who all had top-40 finishes in the Nike Race of Champions at the Great American Race.
The last two members of the team that are going to Pre-Nationals for the Chants are senior Danielle Hagler (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern Regional) and junior Eileen Wicker (Quinton, Va./New Kent).
Among the 34 other schools competing in the 6,000 meter Womens White Race with Coastal are #2 Michigan, #5 Illinois, #6 Arizona State, #7 Colorado, #11 Wake Forest, #15 Princeton, #17 Michigan State, #23 Washington, #25 Marquette, #26 Boston College, #30 Oregon, #34 Vanderbilt and #35 Colorado State, who are all ranked among the top-37 cross country programs nationally.
CCU comes into the meet as the ninth ranked team in the Southeast Regional.
Following Saturdays event, Coastal will take a week off from competing before heading to Lexington, Va. to participate in the Big South Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. on the campus of VMI.
