Week 4 Notes:
Jepchirchir Named Runner of the Week
With an 11th-place finish at the Brooks Paul Short Run, senior Diana Jepchirchir was named Big South Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week on Oct. 3. Jepchirchir finished the 6K course in a time of 20:57, becoming just the third runner in program history to run sub-21:00 in a 6K race.
Setting Personal Records at Paul Short
Both senior Diana Jepchirchir and sophomore Theresa Schamberger like the course at the Brooks Paul Short Run. In 2006, both athletes ran their season-best 6K time at the meet. This year, Jepchirchir and Schamberger both set new 6K personal records at the Brooks Paul Short Run with Jepchirchir taking 45 seconds off her previous top time of 21:42 and Schamberger’s ran 1:11 faster than her previous personal-best time of 23:24.
Lady Chanticleers 10th in Region
In the latest regional rankings, Coastal Carolina ranked 10th in the Southeast Region. The Lady Chants are the top Big South team ranked in the region.
Where To Next...
Coastal will compete in two meets this Saturday. The Lady Chants will send one team to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in the NCAA Pre-Nationals for the fifth time in program history. Meanwhile, Coastal’s “B” team heads to Low Country Invitational at Johns Island, S.C.
...And Who’s Racing
Head coach Alan Connie has entered seniors Aubrey Bergquist and Diana Jepchirchir, juniors Felicitas Mensing and Keli-Jo White, sophomore Theresa Schamberger and redshirt freshman Maranie Staab in the Pre-Nationals race. Senior Nikki Jasperson, sophomores Peggy Busbee and Kathryn Zenowitz and freshmen Joyce Curtin, Shelby Donahue and Kate Taber will compete at the Low Country Meet.
Another 6K, Another 5K
Coastal races its second 6K race of the season when the Lady Chants head to Pre-Nats. At the Brooks Paul Short Run, Coastal runners averaged a time of 22:14 on the 6K course. Meanwhile, Coastal also runs its third 5K race of the season on Saturday at the Low Country Invitational. CCU raced 5Ks at the Covered Bridge Open and the CCU Invitational.
