CONWAY- Coastal Carolina’s women’s cross country team is set to compete in the 5k Walt Disney World Classic in Orlando, Fla. Saturday, Oct. 9. The meet will start at 8:30 a.m. and will feature 30 teams from throughout the nation including in-state rival South Carolina.

This is Coastal’s first time competing in the event that is set to run around the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex. The Walt Disney Classic holds the tradition of being a meet that features regional qualifying teams.

This will be the Chants first race since the 6k Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 25. Coastal finished 20th of 29 teams in the event that showcased eight of the top 30 nationally ranked teams.

Through two 5k races this season, the Chanticleers have two leaders in Jamie Brusa and Seanna Kautz. Brusa paced the Chants in the Gamecock Open after finishing fifth in 18:17.6. Kautz, a true freshman, paced the team at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, finishing third with a time of 18:31.30, helping the team defend their CCU Invitational title for the fourth consecutive year.

Junior Christian Johnson, sophomore Janel Reeves and freshmen Emily Marchini and Stephanie Taylor are looking to build upon their early season a success, after placing in the top 10 of both 5k meets this season.

“During our week off, we have been training hard, getting in hill workouts and running long intervals between 12 to 14 miles,” said head coach Alan Connie.

“The energy within the team is really good, they have shown really good work ethic, and there is a sense of togetherness that will help us as a team build ourselves toward the championship.”
