Women’s Cross Country takes 19th at Paul Short Run

More Information:

Bethlehem, Pa.- The Coastal Carolina University women’s cross country team took part in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University this afternoon, Fri., Oct. 3, placing 19th overall out of 43 teams.

Redshirt-freshman Mia Wyszynski (Berlin, Germany/Wilma Rudolph (University of Bremen)) was the top finisher for the Chanticleers in 112th place with a time of 22:20. Redshirt-sophomore Maranie Staab (Trafford, Pa./Penn Trafford) finished four seconds behind Wyszynski in 116th place.

Coastal Carolina had the top finish of the competing Big South schools, as it narrowly edged out Liberty, who came in 20th place. VMI also competed in the event, but failed to finish five runners.

“We were disappointed that we didn’t have a higher team finish, but I still think our individual times were solid, with only a :20 second split between our top finisher and our fifth finisher,” exclaimed Head Coach Alan Connie.

Sophomores Joyce Curtin (Kileagh, Ireland/Colaiste Eoin) and Shelby Donahue (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) shaved nearly two minutes off of their times at the 2007 Paul Short Run, something that Connie called "exceptional."

Coastal Carolina will next be back in action on Friday, Oct. 17 at the Blue Ridge Mountain Open hosted by Appalachian State University at 4:30 p.m.
