Women's Cross Country Finishes 37th in Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s cross country team finished 37th overall out of 40 teams in the Brooks Paul Short Run (6k) hosted by Lehigh University on Fri., Oct. 2 in Gold Division.  West Virginia captured the team title and Neely Spence of Shippensburg won the individual title. 

In the first 6k of the year for Coastal Carolina and running without two of the team’s top runners, freshman Janel Reeves was the top finisher for the Chanticleers placing 84th out of 362 participants with a time of 21:49.  Junior Shelby Donahue finished behind Reeves at 193rd with a time of 22:46.  Senior Theresa Schamberger crossed the line at 22:46 for 209th overall and third for the Chanticleers.  Sophomore Christian Johnson was next to finish at 259th overall with a time of 23:10 followed by freshman Jessica Dennison at 23:11 to finish 263rd.  Freshman Emma Hulburd finished in the 314th spot with a time of 23:50 and redshirt sophomore Rindi Wood finished 335th at 24:12.  Senior Peggy Busbee rounded out the pack at 362nd with a time of 25:59. 

The Chanticleers travel to Boone, N.C., for the Blue Ridge Open on Fri., Oct. 16, at Appalachian State.  The women are scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
