Women's Cross Country Finishes Ninth in the Nike Race of Champions

CARY, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina University women’s cross country team finished in ninth place at the prestigious Nike Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. The Lady Chanticleers finished with 299 points and had three harriers finish in the top-60.

Senior Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru) finished in 13th place in the 5K race with a time of 17:36.73. Shannon Rowbury of Duke won the event in a time of 16:42.64. The next Lady Chant was senior Kim Nemergut (Youngstown, Ohio/South Range), who finished 59th with a time of 18:49.06. Right behind her was freshman Christina Mohr (Ulmen, Germany), placing 60th in 18:49.64. Senior Lindsey Kozlowski (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Port Arthur Collegiate) placed 87th with a time of 19:18.83. Freshman Aubrey Bergquist (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) was in 105th place in 19:36.27. Junior Jessica Goeden (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids) was in 124th place (20:12.16) and sophomore Nikki Jasperson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) finished in 127th place (20:17.29).

Duke won the team event with 56 points, followed by North Carolina (85), Georgia (122), and Brigham Young (124). The defending Division II champions, Adams State, finished fifth with 134 points. Coastal defeated Northern Arizona, who was receiving votes in the latest NCAA cross country poll.

Coastal will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in the NCAA Pre-National Meet Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. The Lady Chants also will compete in Greenville, N.C., at the Region Preview Meet the same day at 9 a.m.
