CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's Cross Country team will trek north to Bethlehem, Pa. to take part in the 38th-annual Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Friday, Sept. 30. The Chanticleers are scheduled to compete in the 6-kilometer Gold race which will start at 11:45 a.m. on Lehigh's Murry H. Goodman Campus.
This year's edition of the prestigious Paul Short Run will feature more than 5,000 runners from 450 colleges and high schools scheduled to compete in races throughout the morning and afternoon. Included in the field are seven of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 teams including four teams in the Top 10 led by No. 1 Georgetown, No. 3 Providence, No. 5 Villanova and No. 9 Duke.
The Chanticleers enter the meet coming off a third place finish at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Sophomore Emily Marchini has led the pack for the Alan Connie coached Chants this season as she has been Coastal's top finisher in both meets this season. Marchini won the season opening Gamecock Open before placing fifth in the CCU Invitational with a personal-best 5-kilometer time of 18:14.
Also, looking to continue their streaks of strong finishes in 2011 are senior Christian Johnson and junior Janel Reeves. Johnson has turned in two top ten finishes this season with a sixth and ninth place finish at the Gamecock Open and CCU Invitational, respectively. Reeves has one top ten finish this season and lowered her season-best 5k time by 19 seconds at the CCU Invitational.
