CARY, N.C. Senior Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru) and Coastal Carolina women's cross country team had its best finish ever, sixth place, in the Nike Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Moutsinga finished 11th in the 5k (17:29.50), which was her best time of the season. Freshman Saskia Janssen (Schwalmtal, Germany/St. Wolfhelm Gymnasium) was CCU's second runner as she finished 22nd (18:08). Other standouts for Coastal include freshmen Felicitas Mensing (Neuhausen, Germany/Leplergy Secondary School) 33rd (18:29) and Estelle Oberson (Geneva, Switzerland/Emilie-Gourd) 38th (18:39).
Juniors Danielle Hagler (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern Regional) and Eileen Wicker (Quinton, Va./New Kent) finished 63rd (19:22) and 69th (19:52), respectively for the Lady Chanticleers. Freshman Keli-Jo White (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) 76th (20:09) rounded out the finishers for the CCU women.
The womens team's finished sixth out of 12 teams with an average time of 18:25.80 and 167 points. They were behind the ranked programs of Duke University (20), BYU (68), Virginia (110), Georgia (119) and William and Mary (153).
Coastal Carolina's women's cross country team are next competing in Greenville, S.C. in the Furman Invitational on Oct. 8.
