Freshman Julia Viellehner named Big South Runner of the Week

Charlotte- N.C.- Coastal Carolina’s Julia Viellehner (Winhoring, Germany/Maria Ward Gymnasium) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels  Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for September 20.

Viellehner, posted her second-straight course record over the weekend as she finished first with a time of 17:28 in the 5K at the CCU Invitational.  Her time was 15 seconds faster than second place in the event.  As a team, CCU split with ECU and UNC, downing ECU 19-37, and falling to UNC 35-24.

In her first collegiate meet, Viellehner finished first at the Covered Bridge Open with a time of 18:10, which was a new course record.  CCU finished behind Florida State and Appalachian State with scores of 30 and 53, respectively.

Viellehner and the Lady Chanticleers are back in action on September 29 when they head to Lehigh, Pa. to compete in the Paul Short Run.
