Coastal Wins Invitational
For the second time in three years, Coastal Carolina won its own invitational on Friday. The Lady Chanticleers topped UNC Wilmington and Mount Olive. Coastal placed four of its runners in the top five en route to scoring 21 points.
Jepchirchir Claims Individual Crown
Senior Diana Jepchirchir won the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a time of 18:19.48. It was her first individual win for Coastal after transferring from the University of New Orleans, where she won the Sun Belt Cross Country Championship.
Staab, Curtain Make Debut
Redshirt freshman Maranie Staab and freshman Joyce Curtain competed in their first meet for Coastal at last weekend’s Coastal Carolina Invitational. Staab finished fifth overall in a time of 19:21.22. Curtain crossed the line in a time of 20:08.22 and was tenth.
Coastal travels to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete in the prestigious 34th annual Brooks Paul Short Run. The Lady Chants will compete in the Women’s College Brown Championship 6K, which will consist of Division I and ranked non-Division I teams. Last year, Coastal finished 10th out of 35 teams with 290 points.
...And Who’s Racing
Head coach Alan Connie has entered seniors Aubrey Bergquist and Diana Jepchirchir, junior Felicitas Mensing, sophomore Theresa Schamberger, redshirt freshman Maranie Staab and freshmen Joyce Curtain and Shelby Donahue to compete in the Brown Championship Race. Senior Nikki Jasperson, junior Keli-Jo White and sophomore Peggy Busbee will compete in the JV race at 4 p.m.
Just 1K Longer
The Brooks Paul Short Run will be the first of three 6K races for the Lady Chants this season. Coastla will also run 6K’s at NCAA Pre-Nationals on Oct. 13 and NCAA Regionals Nov. 10.
