CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's cross country team will host the 7th Annual Coastal Carolina University Invitational/Big South Preview on Saturday, Sept. 17. The meet will be held on the grounds of the Quail Creek Golf Club adjacent to Coastal Carolina University.
The starting gun will fire for the men's 8k race at 8:30 a.m. with the women's 5k race at 9:15 a.m.
The Chanticleers won the CCU Invitational last season. Seanna Kautz is the Chants top returner from a year ago after placing third overall in a time of 18:19.8.
The Chants women's program is coming off a second place finish at the South Carolina Gamecock Open on Sept. 2. The Chants also placed second in the Gamecock Open in 2010.
Emily Marchini tallied her first collegiate win in at the Gamecock Open with a time of 18:36.12 to lead a pack of four Chants placing in the top 11. Christian Johnson, an All-Conference performer in 2010, placed sixth closely followed by Janel Reeves in eighth. Sophomore Jessica Dennison turned in an 11 place finish in the meet.
Big South rivals Campbell, High Point, Presbyterian, Radford and defending champion Liberty are scheduled to compete in the Invitational along with the No. 8 nationally ranked Duke squad.
