Women’s Cross Country to Host Coastal Carolina Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University’s women’s cross country team and head coach Alan Connie will kick off the home portion of the 2005 season this weekend as they host the Coastal Carolina Invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Quail Creek Golf Club.

Leading CCU is senior Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru). Moutsinga was named the Big South Conference’s Runner of the Week for the week ending Sept. 7 as she led the team to a third place finish at the Covered Bridge Open as she finished third (18:33.85).

Other standouts for Coastal during the first meet include freshman Saskia Janssen (Schwalmtal, Germany/St. Wolfhelm Gymnasium) who was fourth (18:48.61). Fellow freshman Felicitas Mensing (Neuhausen, Germany/Leplergy Seconday School) finished eighth (19:14.63) at the meet and junior Eileen Wicker (Quinton, Va./New Kent) took home 28th place (20:41.98)

The four other schools competing against Coastal this weekend are UNC Wilmington, Furman, Charleston Southern and Mt. Olive.

Following Saturday’s event, Coastal will next be in action Sept. 24 as it travels to Cary, N.C., to compete in the Great American Race.
