Women's Cross Country Wins Coastal Carolina Invitational
CONWAY, S.C. –The Coastal Carolina University women’s cross country team won the Cosatal Carolina Invitational Sept. 14 held at Quail Creek Golf Course in Conway, S.C. The Chanticleers had four runners place in the top five while beating UNC Wilmington and MountOliveCollege.Senior Diana Jepchirchir (Kampala, Uganda/University of New Orleans) won the meet with a time of 18:16.71 on the 5,000-meter course. This is the third straight year that a Lady Chanticleer has taken the top spot. Jepchirchir was followed by junior Felicitas Mensing (Neuhausen, Germany/Leplergy Secondary School), who had a time of 18:19.48. Sophomore Theresa Schamberger (Kendalville, Ind./East Noble) was third with a time of 19:02.06. In fifth place, redshirt freshman Maranie Staab (Trafford, Pa./Penn Trafford) had a time of 19:21.22. Freshman Joyce Curtin (Killeagh, Ireland/Colaiste Eoin) was 10th with a time of 20:08.22. Freshman Shelby Donahue (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) was 11th with a mark of 20:22.51. Just behind her was senior Nikki Jasperson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers), who finished 12th with a time of 20:55.51. Junior Kelli Jo White (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) was 14th with a time of 20:58.95. Sophomore Peggy Busbee (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) was 18th with a time of 21:45.63 and sophomore Kathryn Zenowitz (Groton Long Pt., Conn./Fitch) finished 23rd with a time of 22:58.66. Coastal scored 21 points in the meet, followed by UNC Wilmington with 34 points and MountOlive with 85 points.Coastal is at Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Run Friday, Sept. 28 at 2:45 p.m.
