Women's Cross Country Wins 2008 Coastal Carolina Invitational

CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina University women's cross country team won its annual home meet, the Coastal Carolina University Invitational this morning, Sat. Sept. 13.

 

The Chants had the top four finishers, and were led by redshirt-freshman Mia Wyszynski (Berlin, Germany/Wilma Rudolph (University of Bremen)) who won her first collegiate meet with a time of 14:49.96. Maranie Staab (Trafford, Pa./Penn Trafford) took second with a time of 14:53.19. Shelby Donahue (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) took third, and Christian Johnson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) took fourth to round out the top finishers for the Chants.

 

Coastal Carolina took first with 22 team points, while UNC-Wilmington took second with 36 points. Concord (86 points) and USC-Aiken (100 points) rounded out the participants.

 

The race was originally scheduled to be run at Quail Creek Golf Club in Conway, but inclimate weather forced the race to be moved to the Coastal Carolina University campus "loop". The race consisted of two laps around the campus, and resulted in a 4k race.

 

The Chants will next be in action Sat. Sept. 20 in the Big South Preview in Lynchburg, Va. at 10 a.m.
