Week 2 Notes:
Mensing Named Runner of the Week
Junior Felicitas Mensing was selected as the Big South Conference Runner of the Week the Big South announced on Thursday, Sept. 6. Individually, she placed fourth with a time of 18:21.67 and was the only runner not from Georgia or Florida State to place in the top five. In her career, Mensing has never finished outside of the top 10 at the Covered Bridge Open.
Coastal Takes Fourth at Covered Bridge Open
The Lady Chanticleers opened the season with a fourth place finish at the Covered Bridge Open on Friday, Aug. 31. Coastal totaled 126 points and finished behind Georgia, Florida State and Navy. Georgia and Florida State ended the 2006 season with 15th and 21st place finishes at the NCAA Championships, respectively.
It’s Schamberger by Less Than Two Seconds
In each of her races at the Covered Bridge Open, sophomore Theresa Schamberger has crossed the finish line in less than two seconds ahead of her closest opponent. Last season, she edged out Florida State’s Christina Woytalewicz by 1.77 seconds. This year, Schamberger beat Georgia’s Whitni Wonderlin to the finish line by 1.16 seconds.
Donahue Competes in First Race for Coastal
Freshman Shelby Donahue made her collegiate debut at the Covered Bridge Open. Donahue finished the 5K course in a time of 20:36.41 and was 54th.
Coastal hosts its annual Coastal Carolina Invitational on Friday, Sept. 14 at 5:45 p.m. at Quail Creek Golf Club in Conway. Teams scheduled to compete include UNC Wilimington, University of South Carolina Beaufort and Mount Olive.

Head coach Alan Connie expects to have all of his healthy runners race in the Coastal Carolina Invitational and is hoping to have 12 runners compete.
