Women's Cross Country Takes Fourth Place at Season Opener

BOONE, N.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University women's cross country team placed fourth out of 11 teams at the Covered Bridge Open on Friday, Aug. 31. The Lady Chanticleers totaled 126 points.

Junior Felicitas Mensing (Neuhausen, Germany/Leplergy Secondary School) led Coastal with a time of 18:21.67 and a fourth place finish. Sophomore Theresa Schamberger (Kendalville, Ind./East Noble) took 14th for the second consecutive year as she completed the course in a time of 19:04.40.  Senior Aubrey Bergquist (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) was 49th with a time of 20:28.51, while freshman Shelby Donahue (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) was 10 seconds behind and took 54th. Junior Keli Jo White (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) was 57th with a time of 20:39.27 and sophomore Peggy Busbee (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) finished 80th in a time of 21:50.62.

Georgia won the race with 27 points, followed by Florida State with 35 points.

The Lady Chanticleers return to action on Friday, Sept. 14 when they host the Coastal Carolina Invitational at Quail Creek Golf Club. The race is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m.
