Coastal Women's Cross Country Picked to Win Fourth Straight Big South Title

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s cross country team has been picked to win the Big South Conference Championships by the conference head coaches and sports information directors, the Big South office announced recently. Coastal Carolina, led by nine-time Big South Cross Country Coach of the Year Alan Connie, earned all 18 first-place votes for a unanimous 162 points.

The Lady Chanticleers have won three championships in a row, including in 2003, which was hosted by Coastal. Senior Anne Marie Moustinga (Galati, Romania,/Radu Negru) will be going for her third straight individual crown after winning last year in a time of 18:16.80. This year’s championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, in Rock Hill, S.C.

Coastal was followed by UNC Asheville, which earned 128 points and Liberty, which had 126 points. High Point was picked fourth in poll with 115 points, followed by WInthrop (82 points), BIrmingham-Southern (67), Radford (66), Charleston Southern (34) and VMI (30).

The Lady Chanticleers open the 2004 season Friday, Sept. 3, at the College of Charleston Invitational.
