Women’s Cross Country Pre-Season Favorite in Big South

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University’s women’s cross country team and head coach Alan Connie are the favorites to win its fifth consecutive title in the Big South Conference preseason poll, the Conference Office announced this Thursday.

CCU received 158 points overall with 14 first-place votes to finish ahead of Liberty, who had 148 points and the other four first-place votes. High Point placed third with115 points, followed by UNC-Asheville (112), Winthrop (89), Birmingham-Southern (64), Radford (59), Charleston Southern (36) and VMI (29).

Last season, Coastal had four All-Conference performers including returning senior Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/ Radu Negru) and sophomore Christina Mohr (Ulmen, Germany/Geschwister Scholl-Gymnasium). Mohr also was the Big South’s Freshman of the Year a year ago.

The Chanticleers men’s and women programs will open their season on Friday, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m., as they travel to Boone, N.C., to participate in the Covered Bridge Open.

The 2005 Big South Women’s Cross Country Poll is voted on by the Conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.
