Coastal Carolina Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Status

Coastal is one of five Big South schools to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Status

New Orleans - The Coastal Carolina women’s cross country team earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic status for posting a 3.42 GPA last semester.

This year 205 teams earned the honor for having a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better and for having started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship. The Chanticleers have reached USTFCCCA All-Academic status for 14 consecutive years.

The Chanticleers were one of five Big South Conference schools to receive the honor. Gardner-Webb, High Point, Liberty and Winthrop were the other schools representing the conference.

Coastal took third place this year at the Big South Conference Championship for the third time in the program's history. Coastal has finished in the top three each of the past 23 years, including being conference champions 12 times, as well as finishing as runner-up eight times.

Christian Johnson led the way for Coastal with a fourth-place finish, following a time of 17:56, to earn All-Big South Conference honors. Emily Marchini completed the race in 18:27 to take 13th. Stephanie Taylor completed the race in 18:39 for an 18th-place showing. Shelby Nicosia placed 21st following as she completed the course in 18:48 and Janel Reeves was 25th overall after running a time of 18:57.

Coastal took 25th at the 6-kilometer NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky., behind four personal record performances on Saturday, Nov. 12. Johnson led Coastal in the meet, finishing the race in a personal-best time of 22:10 to take 88th place.

Marchini was second overall for Coastal in the regional meet, completing the race in 22:24. Seanna Kautz and Nicosia recorded identical personal-best times of 23:07 to place. Jessica Dennison rounded out Coastal’s top-five with a time of 23:17.
