CONWAY  -  The host Coastal Carolina women's cross country team finished third in the 2011 Big South Championship meet presented by UCS and Musco Lighting at the Quail Creek Golf Club course on Saturday, Oct. 29.

High Point took home the team championship by winning the meet with 33 points followed by Liberty with 59 and Coastal with 81.  Conference newcomer Campbell and Winthrop rounded out the top five with 91 and 146 points respectively.   Liberty's Jennifer Klugh won the 5K meet with an impressive time of 17:52.

Coastal senior Christian Johnson claimed her third career All-Big South honor as she paced the Chants with a fourth place finish.  The Cleveland Heights, Ohio native recorded a personal-best effort of 17:56.  It was the first  sub-18 minute time of Johnson's career.

Sophomore Emily Marchini was the second Chant across the finish line with a personal-record 18:27 clip to place 13th.  Also turning a personal-best performance was Stephanie Taylor with an 18th place finish in 18:39.  Shelby Nicosia placed 21st as she completed the course in 18:48.  Janel Reeves finished fifth for the Chanticleers with a time of 18:57 to place 25th overall.

Seanna Kautz and Jessica Dennison rounded out the Coastal competitors placing 28th and 38th, respectively.  Kautz turned in a time of 19:05 followed 15 seconds later by Dennison in a 19:20 clip.

"I am very proud and pleased with the way our young team performed and competed with a very good conference field today," said head coach Alan Connie.  "As a whole, this was the best effort our top five finishers have displayed this season.  This performance will give us a good amount of momentum heading into the NCAA Regional meet.

"My hat is off to High Point putting together a great race today from top to bottom to earn the Big South Championship."

In addition to Reeves finishing 25th, she was also named to the Big South All-Academic team.
