CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's cross country team placed third in the 5k CCU Invitational/Big South Preview held on the grounds of the Quail Creek Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Duke, ranked No. 8 nationally, won the event handedly with a score of 19. High Point placed second with a score of 70 followed by Coastal Carolina and Campbell in third with 94 points apiece. Liberty rounded out the top five with 109 points. Duke's Suejin Ahn won the event with a time of 17:40.

Emily Marchini crossed the finish line first for the Chanticleers for the second time this season. The sophomore finished fifth in 18:14 to break the Blue Devil's strangle hold on the top five spots. Also turning in times under 19 minutes were Christian Johnson with a 18:26 to place ninth and Janel Reeves who placed 22 with an 18:55.

Jessica Dennison improved her previous season best by 24 seconds as she crossed the finish line in 19:08 to place 26 overall. Shelby Nicosia capped the scoring for the Chanticleers with a 37th place finish as she completed the course in 19:40.

Stephanie Taylor made her season debut finishing with a time of 20:20.

Coastal will return to action at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Sept. 30.
