CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Big South Conference has announced that Coastal Carolina University will be the sixth seed for the Conference Volleyball Championship, which begins Thursday, November 17, in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Lady Chanticleers (10-19) tied for fifth in the regular season with UNC Asheville, but lost the tiebreaker and became the sixth seed. Coastal will face the third seed and tournament host Liberty Lady Flames on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Liberty won both matches against Coastal during the regular season, including a thrilling 3-2 victory in the regular season finale in which the Lady Flames won the final game 15-13.
Radford University will be the tournament's top seed after going undefeated in 14 Big South matches. The Lady Highlanders will face the eighth-seeded Elon Phoenix at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The remainder of the schedule in the opening round includes #2 Winthrop vs. #7 High Point at 5:00 p.m. and #4 seed Charleston Southern vs. #5 seed UNC Asheville at 3:00 p.m.
The winner of the Radford-Elon match will face the winner of the Charleston Southern-UNC Asheville match in the first semifinal on Friday at 5:00 p.m. The winner of the Winthrop-High Point match will play the winner of the Liberty-Coastal Carolina match at 7:00 p.m. in the second semifinal on Friday. The championship match will be played at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The winner of the volleyball championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
