Volleyball Has Two Academic All-District Team Members

Obert, Jensen Make Second and Third Team, Respectively

The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team had two members make the 2004 Academic All-District III University Division Volleyball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today (Nov. 11). Sophomore Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) was named to the second team, while junior Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary (Ole Miss)) was selected to the third team.

Obert, who has a 3.95 grade-point-average in psychology, leads the team and is third in the Big South in hitting percentage at .300. She has played all 27 matches for the Lady Chanticleers and is averaging 2.52 kills and 1.01 block per game. Her blocks-per-game average puts her fifth in the Big South. She has had seven total blocks twice this season, against Central Michigan Sept. 11 and at High Point Sept. 24. Obert had a season-high 19 kills Oct. 9 and was named to the All-Tournament Team at both the Chanticleer Classic and the Big Orange Bash.

Jensen, who has a 3.72 GPA in marketing, is averaging 4.44 kills per game, which is second in the Big South. She also is fourth in the conference with 3.93 digs per game. Jensen has recorded six matches with over 20 kills and had a season-high 28 kills in a five-game win over North Carolina State Sept. 18. Her 21 double-doubles lead the league. She was named the Big South Player of the Week Nov. 8 and was named to the All-Tournament Team in both the Big Orange Bash and the Dayton Invitational.

Coastal hosts Charleston Southern University Friday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m., in the last match before the Big South Tournament.
