Volleyball Falls to Liberty 3-2

CONWAY, S.C. — For the second straight day, Coastal Carolina's volleyball team battled through five games with one of the Big South's top teams, but again came up just short, this time to Liberty Saturday afternoon at Kimbel Arena. Rachel Harnack was dominate for the Lady Flames (18-10 overall, 11-3 BSC), racking up 40 kills on 72 attempts for a .431 hitting percentage, as Liberty hit .303 as a team, winning 27-30, 30-20, 28-30, 30-24, 15-13.

The duo of Katie Knutson and Sarah Bennett again led the charge for the Lady Chanticleers (10-19, 5-9), recording 26 and 25 kills respectively, as Coastal played well from the start in winning the first game.

After splitting the first four games, Liberty jumped out quickly in the decider, leading 10-5 before CCU went on a run of its own, eventually tying the game at 13. But the Lady Flames tallied the final two points, ending the match on Harnack's tip.

Erin McKeown and Jennifer Belk had 18 kills each in the winning effort for Liberty, while setter Michelle Howland recorded 84 assists.

This was the final regular season match for both squads, as they begin play in the Big South Tournament Thursday, November 15, in Lynchburg, Va. This effort for Coastal comes on the heels of another five set loss, at the hands of the Big South's No. 1 team, undefeated Radford.
