VOLLEYBALL FINISHES REGULAR SEASON THIS WEEK:TheCoastal Carolina volleyball team will travel to Charleston Southern Friday, Nov.11 for a 7 p.m. match.
SCOUTING CHARLESTON SOUTHERN: Charleston Southern (13-15) jumped ahead early and went on to beat Savannah State (3-23) easily 3-0 (30-23, 30-16, 30-13) Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Jenni Shepherd led all hitters with 15 kills for CSU, while setter Katie ORiordan had another strong performance with 46 assists. Tori Owens switched to play Libro for CSU in the match and led the team with nine digs.
SERIES WITH CHARLESTON SOUTHERN:CCU leads the series with Charleston Southern 26-13. The Lady Chants defeated the Buccaneers in four games Sept. 21 in Conway.
BIG SOUTH TOURNAMENT:The Lady Chants have clinched the number two seed in the Big South Conference and will have a home match during the first round of the Big South Conference Tournament. The Lady Chanticleers will host the semifinals and championship game of the Big South Tournament Nov. 19-20.
SETTING TO THE TOP: Senior Jennifer Hampton has a career total of 5,252 assists. This keeps her at the top of CCUs all-time records. She also has an average of 11.72 assists per game. Hampton holds the top position in assists per game with 12.05 in CCUs all-time records. Hampton is also third all-time in the Big South Conference.
STATISTICS LEADING TO SUCCESS:Coastal has had a .200 or over hitting percentage in 18 of the 27 matches during the 2005 season. CCU has a 16-2 record when the hitting percentage is .200 or higher.
BLOCKING LEADERS: Senior Krista Kimble has tallied 87 blocks for the 2005 season, giving her a career total of 317 blocks. This places her in third place in CCUs total blocking records, behind Mindy Burst who has 325. Laura Obert has recorded 70 blocks for the season thus far. Obert has a total of 263 career blocks putting her in the fifth position in CCUs records, behind Autumn Staab,who has a total of 276.JENSEN-SPENCER AND HAMPTON DIG DEEP: Jennifer Hampton has tallied 260 digs for the current season, giving her a career total of 1,316. This places her in fourth on CCUs all-time records behind Sarah Bennett who has a total of 1,325 digs. Katherine Jensen-Spencer has 1,295 career digs and is fifth on CCUs all-time list behind teammate Hampton.
KILLING AND DIGGING, THE WINNING COMBINATION:Katherine Jensen-Spencer has 1,295 digs in her career at Coastal and 1,502 kills. This puts her with only four other Coastal volleyball players who have tallied over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs during their time at CCU. Jensen-Spencer has done this in a little under three years.
KILLING NOT SO SOFTLY:Katherine Jensen-Spencer has recorded 503 kills for the 2005 season giving her a total of 1,502. This puts her in the second spot on CCUs all-time records behind Jeanne Lambert who has 1,561. Jensen-Spencer averages 5.13 kills per game keeping her in first on CCUs all-time records for kills per game, and 13th nationally. NEWCOMER UPDATE: Freshman Brett Starbuck has played in 23 matches during the current season. She has a total of 43 kills averaging .80 a game and 135 digs, averging 2.50 a game. Sophomore Devon West is averaging .89 kills per game and 1.08 digs in the 21 matches she played in during the current season.
PAST WEEK PLAY: Coastal Carolinas volleyball team defeated UNC Wilmington in three straight games Oct. 31. Game scores were 30-16, 30-16, and 30-15.
Katherine Jensen-Spencer had 14 kills and nine digs in the victory. Jennifer Hampton had 41 assists and eight digs. Krista Kimble added 12 kills for the Lady Chants, while West added 10. Brett Starbuck tallied three kills and 15 digs.
The Lady Chants had six blocks while the Seahawks had four. CCU had an overall hitting percentage of .328 while UNC Wilmington hit at .019.
PAST WEEK BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE PLAY: Coastal Carolinas volleyball team defeated High Point recording the 11th Big South win of the season Friday, Nov. 4. Game scores were: 30-21, 30-24, and 30-20.
Katherine Jensen-Spencer recorded her 17th double-double of the season with 17 kills and 14 digs. Jennifer Hampton had 41 assists. Alicia Meyers added a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Kristin Rinne had 15 digs and Kali Banghart contributed 10 digs in the victory.
CCU had an overall hitting percentage of .266 while HPU hit at .153. The Lady Chants had a total of six blocks while the Panthers had five.
Coastal Carolinas volleyball team fell to Winthrop in five game for the second time this season, in game scores of 29-31, 30-24, 36-34, 25-30, and 11-15.
Leading the Lady Chants effort was Katherine Jensen-Spencer with her 18th double-double of the season with 28 kills and 19 digs. Jennifer Hampton had 62 assists and 12 digs. Alicia Meyers added a double-double with 15 kills and 16 digs.
