Volleyball's Nyhof Named to the First Team Academic All-District

CONWAY, S.C. – Junior Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview), a middle blocker for the Coastal Carolina University volleyball team, has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III University first team Thursday, Nov. 8, as announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). With this honor, Nyhof is now eligible for the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.

Last year, Nyhof was selected to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III University Second Team. Nyhof joins former Chanticleer Jeanne Lambert as the only two players in Coastal Carolina volleyball history to be named to the First Team. After Lambert's nomination in 2000, she went on to earn a spot on the Academic All-America First Team.

The Alpharetta, Ga., native was elected President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the past two years and was the recipient of the 2008 President’s Scholar Athlete award. Nyhof has been named to the President's and Dean's list all four semesters at Coastal Carolina.

As a political science major, Nyhof carries a 4.00 grade point average. Nyhof has played in every contest of the Chanticleers this season and leads the Big South Conference in blocks, averaging 1.14 per set. She was selected to the South Carolina State Spikefest All-Tournament team earlier this season, after registering 23 kills on a .360 hitting percentage and posting 10 blocks in four matches.

Coastal Carolina continues its three-match road swing Friday, Nov. 7 when it travels to Boiling Springs, N.C., for a match against Gardner-Webb. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
