Coastal Volleyball Returns to the Road to Play Charleston Southern

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team will travel to Charleston, S.C. to play Big South Conference opponent Charleston Southern on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m.

Coastal, 11-18 overall and 3-8 in conference play, is coming off of their final home game of the 2011 season, in which they won 3-0 over South Carolina State. Senior Erika Lightsey and freshman Katie Martin each had 12 kills during the match. Lightsey also led the team in service aces with two and Martin finished with a team high six blocks. Sophomore Lindsay Gill recorded 10 digs and fellow classmate Sam Skryd posted 23 assists.

The Chanticleers are averaging 14.5 digs, 11.7 kills, 10.8 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.5 aces a set. Martin is leading the team in service aces with 36 and is third in the Big South with an average of 0.34 per set. She also has team-highs in points (303.0) and blocks (79). Sophomore Kindra Bailey is sixth in the Big South in hitting percentage with a mark of .274. Lightsey is leading the Chants in kills with 273 and is eighth in conference, as she is averaging 2.73 per set. Freshman Lian Bernett is sixth in kills in the Big South, averaging 2.84 per set. Gill has 399 digs on the season and is ninth in the conference with a 3.76 average. Skryd has a team-high 681 assists for Coastal.

Charleston Southern will be playing the Chanticleers in their final home match of the 2011 season following a week off. The Buccaneers last played Big South opponent Winthrop on Oct. 29 and fell by scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-19. Wynter Davis led the way for the Buccaneers following seven kills and an attacking percentage of .250. Amy Nokes finished the match with 17 assists and eight digs. Sydney Tracy tallied three blocks in the match.

The Buccaneers are averaging 13.6 digs, 10.2 kills, 9.4 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 aces a set and have an attacking percentage of .117.

The two teams met earlier this season with Coastal taking the 3-0 victory to improve their all-time record over the Buccaneers to 38-15. Coastal will be looking to sweep the regular season series for the first time since 2008 when the Chants won 3-1 and 3-0. The Chants also beat the Buccaneers 3-0 during the Big South Tournament that season.
