HIGH POINT, N.C. – Coastal Carolina’s volleyball team (17-9, 11-1 Big South) swept High Point (15-14, 5-7 Big South) in three games on Friday, Nov.4 by scores of 30-21, 30-24, 30-20.   In the first game, CCU took the early two point advantage, but High Point quickly caught up. The game was tied at 9 all, when a kill from Katherine Jensen-Spencer (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary (Mississippi)) led the Lady Chants on a three-point run. HPU attempted to gain control of the game, but could only close the gap to 14-11 before Jensen-Spencer kill sent the Lady Chants on a four-point run. CCU continued to control the first game as HPU could never close the gap. A double block by Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif. /Temecula Valley) and Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) ended the game one victory for the Chanticleers.   In the second game, the Panthers took control early and led the Lady Chants at 4-1 before a double block from Krista Kimble (Lake Forest, Calif. /El Toro) and Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C./Lexington) got CCU back into the game and sent them on a four-point run of their own.  A kill by HPU’s Michelle Feiser ended CCU’s mini run. After a High Point went on a run to take the lead again, CCU fought back to knot the game up at nine all. A kill by Meyers led the Lady Chants on a five-point streak to grab the 14-9 lead. High Point attempted to battle back from a 21-14 deficit with a three-point spurt highlighted by kill from Feiser, but they never managed to narrow the margin. The Panthers went on a four-point run after a kill by Ashley Mellott to again narrow the deficit, but a kill by Jensen-Spencer, assisted by Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif. /El Toro) gave the Lady Chants a game two win, 30-24.   The early going of the third game was a back to forth battle between the Panthers and the Lady Chants. The strongest lead in the beginning belonged to CCU at 7-5.  A kill by Meyers sent CCU on a four-point run and gave Coastal a 12-8 lead. At 21-14, Coastal went on three additional three-point streaks to win the third game, 30-20.   Jensen-Spencer recorded her 17th double-double of the season with 17 kills and 14 digs. Hampton had 41 assists. Meyers added a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz. /Fountain Hills) had 15 digs and Kali Banghart (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton) contributed 10 digs in the victory.   Ashley Mellott had 11 kills in the Panthers effort, while Jamie Kaufman added 17 digs. CCU had an overall hitting percentage of .266 while HPU hit at .153   CCU will now travel to Winthrop for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, November 5.
