Volleyball's Kimes and Starbuck Earn Big South Weekly Honors
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sophomore Chelsy Kimes (Munster, Ind./Munster) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while defensive specialist Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker)picked up Libero of the Week honors, the League announced Monday, Nov. 3.
Kimes, an outside hitter, put away 36 kills, averaged 5.14 kills per set and hit .439 to lead the Coastal Carolina University volleyball team to two Big South wins last week, including a win over then League-leader High Point. She got her week started with nine kills, two aces and 10 digs in Coastal Carolina’s 3-0 win over Charleston Southern on Oct. 28. Four days later, Kimes exploded with 27 kills and a .575 hitting percentage to go along with nine digs and one block as the Chanticleers downed High Point, 3-1. The honor marks her second Player of the Week nod this season.
Starbuck came up with 38 digs and averaged 5.43 digs per set to help her Chanticleers to two Big South wins last week. She posted 16 digs and one ace against Charleston Southern and followed with 22 digs and two aces against High Point. The honor marks her first Libero of the Week honor this season.
Coastal Carolina will head out on its last road stretch of the season, starting with a non-conference match against UNC Wilmington Tuesday, Nov. 4. The match is slated for 6 p.m.
