Volleyball to Host Three This Week...

The Coastal Carolina volleyball team hosts three matches in Kimbel Arena this week. On Halloween, (Tuesday, Oct. 31) the Lady Chanticleers play host to the College of Charleston at 7 p.m. The upcoming weekend is an important one for the Lady Chants as they look to pick up some wins during Homecoming. On Saturday they will host UNC Asheville at 6 p.m. and on Sunday CCU will host Birmingham-Southern at 4 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. vs. UNC Asheville

Sunday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. vs. Birmingham-Southern

Scouting College of Charleston:

The Lady Cougars are coming to Conway off of two Southern Conference wins this past weekend. The are currently 18-6 overall and 12-1 in the SoCon.

On Friday night, they swept Wofford (3-0). Annie Uthe led the way for the College of Charleston, hitting a match-high .474 on 12 kills and added five blocks.

CofC had eight team blocks on the night with Tiffany Blum, Sarah Voss and Uthe leading the effort. The trio led the Cougars offensively as Voss finished with 10 kills on .304 hitting. Blum, who also hit a .304 clip, had nine kills.

The Cougars were anchored by Marie Dobrenz with 23 digs. She also had four service aces. SoCon Player of the Week Lindsey Kane dished out 32 assists.

In the Lady Cougar win against Furman on Saturday, Emily Sawin paced Charleston (18-6, 12-1 SoCon) with 18 digs on .196 hitting. She added 11 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Deanna Patrick followed with 13 kills, three digs and a service ace.

Tiffany Blum and Sarah Voss tallied 12 kills apiece. Blum hit a team-high .320 as she notched five blocks and four digs. Voss recorded four digs and two blocks.

Marie Dobrenz came up with 24 digs to lead the Cougars’ defensive effort, followed by Alexis Lowes with 13 and Megan Parkerson with 12. Lindsey Kane dished out 50 assists.

Scouting UNC Asheville :

The Lady Bulldogs come to Conway after splitting on the weekend, falling to Liberty in four games and defeating Radford in four on Saturday. Currently, UNC Asheville is 11-15 overall, 8-3 Big South.

In the loss to Liberty, Elif Unlu tied her career high with 27 kills and 12 digs for her 17th double-double of the season, but it was not enough to seal the victory.

Alysha Greer had 12 kills for the Bulldogs. Raquel Miotto led all players with 29 digs while Brooke Holiday had 17 digs as Asheville out dug Liberty 82-80.

In the victory against Radford, Unlu recorded 23 kills and 12 digs and Ashley Wrightenberry had 14 kills to lead UNC Asheville.

Raquel Miotto recorded a match-high 25 digs, giving her 5.57 digs per game for the season. Bridget Holiday and Shannen Bagge had 14 and 10 digs, respectively.

Scouting Birmingham-Southern:

The Lady Panthers also split on the weekend, falling to Liberty and defeating Radford. BSC improves to 9-15 overall and 6-5 in the Big South.

On Friday, Liberty defeated the Lady Panthers in a five-game thriller. Birmingham-Southern was lead by four Lady Panthers who had double-digits in kills. Sarah Harris and Michelle Maciejewski each had 21 kills. Maciejewski added 14 digs while Harris scooped up 12 digs. Morgan Anderson was next in line for the Lady Panthers with 14 kills, followed by Casey Demos who had 11. Milica Stojanovic had a season-high 68 assists and libero Alex Norten had 35 digs.

Led by freshman Michelle Maciejewski with 15 kills and 13 digs, the Birmingham-Southern volleyball team swept Radford, 3-0 on Sunday, October 29.

Morgan Anderson had 11 kills, hit .296 and had five blocks. Caitlin Dees also had five blocks for the Panthers, and Harris had 10 kills, three aces and 13 digs.

Sophomore Casey Demos hit a team-high .364 and Stojanovic had 48 assists and 10 digs. Norten led the BSC defense with a match-high 30 digs.

Rooster Round-up

Winthrop...

The Coastal Carolina volleyball team fell to top ranked Winthrop in three games on Friday, Oct. 27. The game scores were 16-30, 14-30 and 17-30.

The Lady Chanticleers were led by freshman Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) who had eight kills on the night. Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C./Lexington) and Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) each had six kills. As a team, Coastal hit for .029 with three blocks.

High Point...

The Coastal Carolina volleyball team fell to High Point in a thrilling five-game match Saturday afternoon. The game scores were 24-30, 30-27, 25-30, 30-25, 15-7.

Coastal was led by junior Thompson who recorded her 11th double-double on the season, tallying 13 kills and 14 digs and freshman Nyhof who had 10 kills and 11 digs. Senior Ashley Scheible (Westerville, Ohio/North) also had a solid performance recording 11 kills with a .450 hitting percentage being responsible for 16.5 points. Scheible also led the Lady Chant blocking effort, having seven assisted blocks in the match.

Freshman setter Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) finished with 49 assists, 10 digs, six kills, four assisted blocks and three service aces. Sophomore libero Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./JR Tucker) had a season-best 30 digs.

As a team, Coastal had a .122 hitting percentage on 62 kills with 39 errors and had a total of 16 blocks.

Halloween Fun with the Lady Chants...

On Tuesday night to celebrate Halloween, there will be a Costume contest at the 7 p.m., volleyball match vs. College of Charleston. There will be a cash prize for the best costume in attendance. Come out and support your Lady Chants, dress up and win some money!!

50-Assist Matches and 70-assist Matches...

Tracey has recorded three 50-plus matches so far this season, the most recent against Charleston Southern (9/23), where she tallied 58 assists. She also has the most assists in the Big South in a single match, recording 71 against Birmingham-Southern (10/15).

20-Dig Matches...

Megan Pollard has recorded five 20-plus digmatches. Her highest was against Liberty (10/9) when she scooped up 29 balls.

Thompson has had three 20-plus dig matches having her highest against Birmingham-Southern (10/15) when she had 24 digs.

Nyhof and Starbuck have each had one 20-plus dig match. Nyhof against North Florida (9/15) with 20 and Starbuck against Liberty (10/25) when she had 25 digs.

30-Dig Matches...

Starbuck has one 30-plus dig match in the High Point match (10/28) when she scooped up 30 digs. Pollard also has one when she had 36 digs against Birmingham-Southern (10/15).

Series Against...

UNC Asheville..

UNC Asheville picked up the slight advantage in the series earlier this season when they defeated the Lady Chanticleers 3-1 in Asheville. The Lady Bulldogs now lead the series 16-15.

Birmingham-Southern..

Coastal leads the series over the Lady Panthers 8-3 despite an early season loss 3-2 to Birmingham-Southern.

Lady Chanticleers Remaining Schedule:

Coastal has one match remaining after this weekend’s match-ups when they host conference rival Charleston Southern in a final battle before the Big South Conference tournament seedings are released. That match will be played on Friday, November 10 at 7 p.m.

The Lady Chants will then wait to hear where they will be traveling to play in the first round of the conference tournament. The first round of that will be on Tuesday, November 14. If Coastal gets a victory in that match, they will then head to High Point for the semifinals on November 17.

The Lady Chants host Charleston Southern on 11/10 and will honor the three seniors, Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy), Kristin Rinne and Ashley Scheible as they compete in their final home match of their career.
