CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Freshman outside hitter Gabriella Horvath was named the CRONS Brand Big South Volleyball Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The honor is Horvath’s second weekly award of the season after being named the Choice Hotels Big South Volleyball Player of the Week on Oct. 1.

Horvath is the first Chanticleer freshman to receive the award since Katie Martin was named the Freshman of the Week on Oct. 24, 2011.  

Horvath led the Chants this week as the team went 1-1. She posted 35 kills with a .230 percentage, two service aces, 14 digs and three blocks over the two matches. In the 3-2 win against Winthrop, she posted 22 kills, one ace, eight digs and two blocks. In the match against Presbyterian, she recorded 13 kills, one ace, six digs and one block.

The Chants return to action Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. as they host Charleston Southern in Big South action. The Lady Buccaneers took a 3-2 victory over the Chants in Charleston earlier this season.
