RADFORD, VA - Coastal Carolina's volleyball team defeated the Radford Highlanders in three games Friday. This gives the Lady Chanticleers an overall record of 12-9 and 7-1 in the Big South Conference while Radford falls to 3-14 and 0-8 in league play.
In the first game, CCU took off on a three-point run after a 7-7 tie. The run was started by a kill from Kirsta Kimble (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro). The Lady Chants continued to lead the game until the 30-23 win. In the second game, the Lady Chants broke a 10-10 tie after an ace from Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) and went on to dominate the game until Christine German recorded a kill for Radford closing in after CCU had a 18-14 lead. Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) set CCU off on a five-point streak leading Coastal to the 30-28 win.
The third and final game was controlled by Coastal as they took off on a 5-0 lead. Radford's Lindsey Wheeler broke up the five-point streak but CCU came back and went on a four-point run after a kill from Katherine Jensen-Spencer (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary /Mississippi). The Lady Chants went on to win the third game 30-17.
Jensen-Spencer led the Lady Chants with her 14th double-double of the season recording 18 kills and 16 digs. Hampton had 33 assists and 11 digs in the victory. Meyers tallied 12 kills and seven digs.
Divona Cox led the Highlanders marking her 1,000th career kills, she recorded 14 kills for the night. Lindsey Wheeler added 10 kills for RU, and Rachel Newton had 26 digs.
CCU had nine blocks while the Highlanders had five. The Lady Chanticleers had an overall hitting percentage of .263, RU hit at .141.
Coastal will now travel to Liberty for a 2 p.m. match Saturday.
