Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight Big South Conference Match
CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina's volleyball team defeated Radford Friday night clinching their seventh straight win. CCU defeated Radford in three games with scores of 30-27, 30-20, and 30-21. The Lady Chanticleers are now 9-6 overall and 4-0 in the Big South Conference, Radford fell to 3-10 and 0-4 in league play.
Coastal was led by senior Katherine Jensen-Spencer (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary/Mississippi) who tallied her eighth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 14 digs. This also marked Jensen-Spencers 57th double-double in her career. Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro ) tallied 39 assists for the Lady Chants and 10 digs in the victory. Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy ) added 12 kills for CCU.
Leading the Highlanders of Radford was Elizabeth Aldredge with eight kills and 19 digs. Aldredge also added two aces in Radford's effort. Lindsey Poole added 6 kills, while Rachel Newton tallied 15 digs.
The first game in the match was kept close between the Coastal and the Highlanders. Radford led 27-26 until Jensen-Spencer had a kill and set the Lady Chants on to a three point win, 30-27. Coastal then took off in the second game with a 15-5 lead which was stopped by a kill from Divonna Cox. The Lady Chanticleers maintained their lead throughout the second game for the 20-30 win. In the final game of the match, Coastal led Radford 16-13 and continued the lead to 20-14 after a kill from Obert. The Lady Chants took charge in the third game and won 30-21.
The Lady Chants had an overall hitting percentage of .201, while the Highlanders hit at .044. CCU tallied eight team blocks while Radford tallied five. CCU also out served the Highlanders with five aces, Radford had three.
CCU will now face Liberty Saturday at 2 p.m. in Kimbel Arena, the Lady Chants are on a 4-0 winning streak in Kimbel during the 2005 season.
