CONWAY, S.C. Coastal Carolina took a trip this weekend through two of the three stops that the Big South Conference schedule has awaiting the Lady Chants' volleyball team this season. The result was a sweep for Coastal as the squad posted a 3-1 victory at High Point on Friday and then swept Elon in three straight.
After dropping the first match at High Point on Friday, the Lady Chants posted three consecutive victories for the win. Junior Katie Knutson paced the Lady Chants with 17 kills, while sophomore Sarah Bennett added 13. Freshman setter Sarah Besemer posted 50 assists. Senior defensive specialist Liz Laubenthal led the defensive charge with 21 digs.
On Saturday, Coastal Carolina's impressive 3-0 sweep of Elon was again spearheaded by Bennett and Knutson, who each recorded 13 kills and 11 assists. Besemer tallied 38 assists and 11 digs, while Carly Draudt led all players with 15 digs. As a team, the Chants hit .228 compared to .122 for Elon.
